About the Role
The role involves leading the implementation of the Haringey SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) strategy with a focus on enhancing special education provision and accelerating the achievement of pupils with SEN. This includes providing leadership and targeted support to schools and settings through specialist teaching services and oversight of SEND school improvement. The objective is to ensure that schools have the necessary tools and guidance to improve provision and outcomes for pupils with SEN. By promoting high standards of attainment and inclusion, this role aims to improve educational outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Additionally, the position requires establishing clear and effective partnerships with schools, families, and other professionals to monitor and support SEND provisions. This involves leading and coordinating Inclusion Teaching Teams to promote early intervention and inclusion, ensuring children and young people with SEND receive the necessary support. The role also includes developing and delivering high-quality specialist advice, support, and training to schools, settings, and parents, focusing on specific needs such as language and communication, sensory support, and early years SEND. Staying updated with current research and national policy developments is crucial, as it informs best practices and strategic planning for SEND services in Haringey.

About You
To excel in this role, candidates must possess specific qualifications and extensive knowledge in the field of special educational needs. Essential qualifications include Qualified Teacher Status, a postgraduate qualification in SEN, and a SENCO qualification. Evidence of continuing professional development is also required, demonstrating a commitment to staying current in the field. Substantial teaching experience with children with SEND needs is crucial, along with successful experience in managing teams and working with families. The candidate should be adept at working as part of a multi-agency team, collaborating effectively with senior leaders in schools, teachers, and professionals from health and social care sectors. This experience should also include the ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently to achieve clear service objectives.
In terms of skills and knowledge, the candidate must have a deep understanding of safeguarding for children and young people and the legislative framework surrounding SEND, including the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Children and Families Act 2014. The role requires excellent communication and training abilities, with the capability to interpret and use a range of data effectively. An understanding of school improvement processes related to SEN, competence in ICT, and the ability to maintain clarity of service objectives are also essential.
